So you’ve been diligent about your diet, but those pounds seem to be remaining right where they are. The truth is, even if you feel like you’re doing everything right, you may be falling victim to pitfalls that you aren’t even aware of. Here are a few things that could be hindering your weight loss goals.

Eating for anything other than hunger

If you find yourself heavier than you should be, chances are you have gotten used to eating for reasons other than hunger. Sometimes we eat to squelch our emotions, while other times we may be using eating as a way to socialize- either way, it’s important to recognize these impulses and replace eating with another activity. Try meditating, working out, or simply talking with a friend to redirect your thoughts.

Avoiding exercise

It may seem like a no-brainer, but those who attempt to diet without getting their blood pumping are highly unlikely to see the results they’ve been looking for. The truth is, muscle burns more calories than fat, so it’s essential to build up that muscle to increase your calorie-burning potential. If nothing else, start walking more and taking the elevator less.

Eating healthy foods that just aren’t healthy

When shopping at the grocery store, do you tend to pick up fat-free foods and a variety of frozen “diet” meals? Next time you do, think twice. Often times these choices are full of preservatives and way too much sugar and sodium for your own good. In turn, they can make you feel bloated – the opposite of the slim physique you are working toward. Also, steer clear of juices as these tend to be an empty source of calories.

If you are putting the work in, don’t allow yourself to be swayed by these debilitating pitfalls.
